What Is an EAN Code?
EAN stands for European Article Number and is effectively a barcode number.
In the UK we use a standard EAN-13 number which consists of a 12 digit number and a calculated 13th check digit that ensures that the number is valid.
All releases that are distributed via LabelWorx require an EAN code.
EAN codes are allocated on a release by release basis. Allocating different barcodes for individual tracks is not supported by LabelWorx or the stores.
LabelWorx will automatically assign your release an EAN code at no extra charge if there is not one specified when you set your release to Final.
What Is a UPC Code?
UPC stands for Universal Product Code and is a type of barcode.
A UPC or EAN barcode is required for large portals like iTunes for every single, EP or Album that is delivered.
If you do not have a UPC or EAN for your release then LabelWorx will supply an EAN code for you. This is allocated when you submit your release for distribution and is visible on the track page.
What Is an ISRC Code?
The ISRC or International Standard Recording Code is an identification system for sound and music video recordings.
Each ISRC is a unique and permanent identifier for a specific recording which is used to identify that recording for royalty payments.
ISRC codes are allocated on a track by track basis.
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) recommends that all music producers use ISRC. We recommend that all labels apply and have their own ISRC allocations number, these are usually free to get.
Once you have your allocation prefix, you can then enter this in our system on your settings page and we can automatically assign your next numbers for you.
If you do not add your own ISRC code then LabelWorx will automatically allocate them at the point when you submit your release for distribution.
These codes are visible on your "Mix Details" page from then on.
Does LabelWorx Charge for Supplying ISRC & EAN Codes for Tracks and Releases?
Although LabelWorx recommends that you use your own ISRC & EAN codes, it is not essential.
We do not charge anything to allocate these to your tracks and releases.
If you leave these fields blank on your track details page, then LabelWorx will automatically allocate these when you submit your release for distribution.
Where Can I Find ISRC or EAN/UPC Codes Allocated to My Releases?
ISRC codes will be added to your release when it is finalised. You can access the ISRC code by going to:
- Select "Release Management" > "Release List"
- Select the release with the track you need the ISRC code for
- Select the relevant track by clicking "Update & Upload Files"
- The ISRC code will be displayed to the top right of the Mix Details page.
You can also get the ISRC code by generating a Label Copy.
