YouTube has great tools that allow you to build interactivity into your videos such as cards and end screens. You can use cards and end screens to include a call to action in your videos, this may be anything from prompting them to subscribe to your channel to suggesting other popular videos within your network, promoting a partner channel, or even pushing them to an external site such as your Facebook page or website.
End Screens and Cards can be added under your Video Settings -> End Screen & Annotations or Cards
Use end screens at the end of a video to:
- Point viewers to other videos, playlists or channels on YouTube
- Call for subscriptions to your channel
- Promote your website, merchandise and crowdfunding campaigns
End screens are a part of the video that show during the last 5-20 seconds. Your video has to be at least 25 seconds long to have an end screen.
You can add up to four elements to promote your content, channel and websites. Elements can expand to show more information on hover on desktop and on tap on mobile devices.
Cards can be added throughout your video, Cards can point viewers to a specific URL and show customised images, titles and calls to action, depending on the card type.
Besides adding interactivity to your videos, you can also be interactive with your audience both proactively and reactively. Asking your audience for their response on a certain subject or video can make them feel a part of your community and keep them coming back for more. This is a great example of proactively engaging with your audience.
You also need to ensure you respond to your viewers, this can be done by responding to comments, or even taking comments on board when creating your next videos. You can even reference a previous video or comment and acknowledge that you heard your viewers voice. This is a great example of reactively engaging with your audience.
